Antisana is a stratovolcano of the northern Andes, in Ecuador. It is the fourth highest volcano in Ecuador, at 5,753 metres (18,875 ft), and is located 50 kilometres (31 mi) SE of the capital city of Quito.

Antisana presents one of the most challenging technical climbs in the Ecuadorian Andes.[citation needed] Next to the Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Chimborazo, the Antisana belongs to the five volcanic mountains that the Prussian-born explorer Alexander von Humboldt tried to climb in 1802 during his American journey.[3]

Der Antisana (auch Antizana) ist ein Vulkan in der Ostkordillere (Cordillera Real), dem zentralen Zug der nördlichen Anden in Ecuador. Er ist der vierthöchste Berg Ecuadors und hat einen breiten, vergletscherten Hauptgipfel mit vier Spitzen und einer großen Caldera. Der mittlere Gipfel ist mit über 5758 m der höchste, der Südgipfel ist etwa 5506 m hoch. An den Hängen des Vulkans finden sich mehrere jüngere Blocklavaströme, welche aus Spalten ausgetreten sind. Die einzige eindeutig datierbare Eruption fand in den Jahren 1801 bis 1802 statt, als sich ein Lavastrom aus einem Schlot an der Nordnordost-Flanke des Vulkans ergoss.

Se sitúa ubicado en la Cordillera Real del Ecuador, entre las provincias de Napo y Pichincha, unos 50 km al sureste de la ciudad de Quito. Se encuentra situado entre los volcanes de Cotopaxi, Chacana, Cayambe, Reventador y Sumaco. Su glaciar perdió al menos 36% de su masa original en los últimos 50 años. Por su importancia estratégica, es la más estudiada de estas cumbres andinas. Se mide su longitud anualmente y su masa cada mes. El deshielo de su casco glaciar y los páramos ubicados alrededor del volcán son una de las fuentes más importantes de agua potable para la ciudad de Quito, capital de Ecuador.
