The Councillor Island, part of the New Year Group, is a 10.53-hectare (26.0-acre) granite island located in the Bass Strait, lying off the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia.[1][2][3]

The island forms part of the King Island Important Bird Area because of its importance for breeding seabirds and waders.[4]
Fauna
Breeding seabird and shorebird species include little penguin, short-tailed shearwater, fairy prion, common diving-petrel, Pacific gull, silver gull, sooty oystercatcher, black-faced cormorant and Caspian tern. Reptiles include eastern blue-tongued lizard.[3]

Councillor Island ist eine unbewohnte, 10,53 Hektar große Insel im Südosten Australiens, die zum Bundesstaat Tasmanien gehört. Sie ist Teil der New-Year-Island-Gruppe (im weiten Sinn). Etwa drei Kilometer weiter westlich liegt die bewohnte, deutlich größere Insel King Island mit der Landspitze Cowper Point.[1][2] Die Angaben zur Höhe von Councillor Island schwanken zwischen fünf Meter[2] und 23 Meter.[3] Nach Süden hin setzt sich die Insel mit über- und unterseeischen Felsen fort.[3] Mehrfach verursachten die Felsen um Councillor Island Havarien von Schiffen.[4]- [en] Councillor Island
