The Krupa is a 2.5 km (1.6 mi) river in White Carniola, southeastern Slovenia. Its source is a karst spring in the village of Krupa below a rock wall. The bed has canyon characteristics in some places. At Gradac, the river joins the Lahinja from the left side. Its drop from the source to the outflow is only 6 metres (20 ft).[1]

The river is protected as a natural monument and has been included in the Natura 2000 ecological network. It is the main feature of the Lebica–Krupa Karst Nature Trail (Slovene: Kraška učna pot od Lebice do Krupe). Its source lake is the only habitat of the cave mollusk Congeria kusceri in Slovenia, found in Cave Mussel Spring (Izvir Jamske školjke).[2] It is also home to some cave snails and the olm.[1]

The Krupa River is infamous because of its extremely high pollution with PCBs due to improper handling of PCB waste material, which has been used for decades by the capacitor manufacturing company Iskra Kondenzatorji in nearby Semič.

Der kurze Fluss Krupa in der süd-slowenischen Region Bela krajina („Weiße Mark“) steht unter anderem wegen seiner malerischen, türkisen Karstquelle seit dem Jahre 1997 unter Naturschutz; der Fluss zählt auch zum Verbundnetz Natura 2000. Es handelt sich um die wasserreichste Quelle der Bela krajina, die unterhalb des Dorfes Krupa entspringt. Da die Bela krajina eine Karstlandschaft ist, die grundsätzlich unter Wassermangel leidet, wollte man in den 1980er Jahren diese Quelle für die Trinkwasserversorgung nutzen. Die gesamte Länge des Flusses beträgt ca. 2,5 km, die durchschnittliche Wasserdurchflussmenge etwa 1000 l/s.[1] Die Krupa mündet unterhalb von Gradac in die Lahinja. Die durchschnittliche Tiefe der Krupa beträgt ca. 20 m. Die Lahinja mündet ein paar Kilometer weiter, bei Primostek, in die Kolpa, die auch unter Naturschutz steht. Die Kolpa wiederum fließt in die Save und diese mündet bei Belgrad in die Donau.
