Argu Tagh (Turkic Argu Tag and Kumysh Tag meaning "Silver Mountains", Chinese Qinling meaning "Onion Mountains") is a mountain range separating the Turan Depression from the Xinjiang region of China. The Argu Tagh range is a northern extension of Kunlun Mountains, it continues northeast to the basin of Ili River, northwest beyond the Balkhash Lake, westward and northeast from Kashgar, stretching along the southern edge of the Tarim Basin, and forming the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert. As "Onion Mountains", the Argu Tagh range was frequently mentioned in the Chinese Annals starting in the 2nd century BC,[1] played a prominent role in the routes of the ancient Silk Road, and was a theater of many historical military and political events.

Argu Tagh (turco Argu Tag e Kumysh Tag, che significa "Montagne d'argento", cinese Qinling che significa "Montagne cipolla") è una catena montuosa che divide il bassopiano turanico (Turkestan occidentale) dal Turkestan orientale. L'Argu Tagh è un'estensione settentrionale dei monti Kunlun, e prosegue a nord-est fino al bacino del fiume Ili, a nord-ovest del Lago Balqaš, ad ovest e a nord-est da Kashgar, costeggiando il lato meridionale dei bacino del Tarim e formando il lato meridionale del deserto di Taklamakan. Come "Montagna cipolla" l'Argu Tagh viene citata spesso negli annali cinesi a partire dal II secolo a.C.,[1] dove si dice giocasse un ruolo principale sulle tratte della vecchia via della seta, e di come in seguito divenne teatro di numerosi eventi storici, militari e politici.
