Golem Grad (Macedonian: Голем Град), meaning Big City/Town, also known as Snake Island, is an island in North Macedonia. The island covers an area of more than 20 hectares.[1] It is located in Lake Prespa, a few kilometers from the Greek and Albanian border. Golem Grad is home to several ancient ruins and churches. It is also home to several different communities of animals, especially snakes.[2] In August 2008, the island opened to tourists.[3]

Golem Grad has an area of 20 hectares and is 600 meters long and 350 meters wide.[1] The island is currently uninhabited and has been so since the mid-20th century, when the small monastic community left the island. The island can only be reached by boat. The village of Konjsko is closest to the island with about two kilometers of water between the two.[1]

Golem Grad (mazedonisch Голем Град, zu Deutsch Große Stadt), auch Schlangeninsel genannt, ist eine 0,18 km² große Insel im nordmazedonischen Teil des Großen Prespasees nahe dem Dreiländereck Nordmazedonien, Albanien, Griechenland. Die Insel liegt im Verwaltungskreis Resen, der nächstgelegene Ort Konjsko ist etwa vier Kilometer entfernt. Die Insel erhebt sich bis 30 Meter über den Seespiegel, der auf 853 Meter Höhe liegt.

Golem Grad (en macédonien : Голем Град, littéralement « grande ville »), également connue sous les noms de Saint-Pierre (νησίδα Άγιος Πέτρος) et d'île des Serpents[1], est une île lacustre de Macédoine du Nord (l'unique île du pays[2]), située sur le lac Prespa à quelques kilomètres des frontières albanaise et grecque. Elle fait partie de la municipalité de Resen. Sa superficie est de 18 ha. On y trouve des traces d'occupation remontant au Néolithique, des ruines antiques et les fondations de plusieurs églises de l'époque byzantine[3]. L'île abrite plusieurs types de communautés animales, notamment des couleuvres[4],[5].
