Lac La Martre, is the third largest lake in the Northwest Territories, Canada.[5] It is located approximately 201 km (125 mi) northwest of the territorial capital of Yellowknife. The Tłı̨chǫ community of Whatì (formerly called Lac La Martre) is located on the east shore of Lac La Martre.

Fauna


The lake is located on a main north/south bird migration route. Hundreds of thousands of ducks, geese and other migratory bird species gather to feed in the marshes.[6]


Demographics


Whatì, a small First Nations community with a population of 470, is located on the shores of the lake.

Lac la Martre ist der drittgrößte See in den Nordwest-Territorien von Kanada. Er befindet sich nordwestlich des Großen Sklavensees. Der See liegt 265 m über Meereshöhe. Seine Wasserfläche beträgt 1687 km², einschließlich Inseln beträgt die Gesamtfläche 1776 km².[1] Der Ort Whatì liegt am Südostufer des Sees. Der See wird vom Fluss Rivière la Martre nach Osten zum Marian River, einem Zufluss des Großen Sklavensees, hin entwässert.
