Bam, früher teilweise Bäm oder Lesson-Insel genannt, ist eine kleine Vulkaninsel des südpazifischen Inselstaates Papua-Neuguinea. Die ca. 3,8 km² große Insel liegt rund 50 km vor der Ostküste von Neuguinea und zählt heute politisch zur Provinz East Sepik. Die Bevölkerung von 1154 (Volkszählung 2000) verteilt sich auf die beiden Dörfer Aruk (597) und Kulkirap (557).

Bam bildet das östlichste Glied der Kette der Le-Maire-Inseln, welche 1616 von den Holländern Willem Cornelisz Schouten und Jacob Le Maire entdeckt wurden.

Der etwa 685 m hohe Schichtvulkan der Insel war ungefähr ab 1872 bis 1960 – und damit auch während der deutschen Kolonialzeit – mehrfach aktiv.

Bam is a small island off the coast of Papua New Guinea, 40 km north northeast of the Sepik river mouth. It represents the southernmost island of the Schouten Islands. The northern coast of the island is inhabited by a village and coconut groves.[1] Much of the island is forested, except along its south flank. The island forms the summit of a large submarine stratovolcano. It measures 2.4 × 1.6 km2 in area.[2] With an elevation of 685 meters (2,247 feet), it is the highest of the Schouten Islands.[3]
