El río Lech es un afluente derecho del río Danubio en Austria y Alemania. Con una longitud de 285 km, se origina en Vorarlberg, atraviesa el Tirol y desemboca en el Danubio en Baviera. Después de la frontera austro-alemana acoge al río Vils, se precipita en el «salto del río Lech» cerca de Füssen y atraviesa los estados federados de Baviera, Suabia y Alta Baviera.

Las ciudades mayores a orillas del río Lech son Landsberg am Lech y Augsburgo, donde acoge al río Wertach. Finalmente desemboca en el Danubio cerca de Rain am Lech. Es el afluente alemán más importante del Danubio, después del río Eno. El río tiene 30 centrales eléctricas y 24 embalses.


Etimología


La palabra Lech proviene del latino licus y del celta Lik. Estas dos palabras significan «que fluye rápidamente» o bien «que es rico en piedras», lo que se puede ver todavía hoy. Otras formas son Licias, Licca o Lika.

Der Lech ist ein rechter Nebenfluss der Donau. Der 256 km lange Fluss entspringt in Vorarlberg und fließt durch Tirol und Südbayern, wo er in die Donau mündet. Kurz vor der österreichisch-deutschen Grenze nimmt er die Vils auf, bildet vor Füssen den künstlichen Lechfall und durchquert auf seinem Weg Schwaben und Oberbayern. Die größten Städte am Lech sind Landsberg und Augsburg, wo er seinen größten Nebenfluss, die Wertach, aufnimmt. Bei Marxheim mündet der Fluss in die Donau.

The Lech (Latin: Licus, Licca) is a river in Austria and Germany. It is a right tributary of the Danube 255 kilometres (158 mi) in length with a drainage basin of 3,919 square kilometres (1,513 sq mi).[1] Its average discharge at the mouth is 115 m3/s (4,100 cu ft/s).[2] Its source is located in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, where the river rises from lake Formarinsee in the Alps at an altitude of 1,870 metres (6,120 ft). It flows in a north-north-easterly direction and crosses the German border, forming the Lechfall, a 12-metre-high (39 ft) waterfall; afterwards the river enters a narrow gorge (the Lechschlucht). Leaving the Alps, it enters the plains of the Allgäu at Füssen at an elevation of 790 metres (2,580 ft) in the German state of Bavaria, where it used to be the location of the boundary with Swabia. The river runs through the city of Füssen and through the Forggensee, a man-made lake which is drained in winter. Here, it forms rapids and a waterfall.

Il Lech è un fiume affluente di destra del Danubio che scorre in Austria e Germania. Lungo 264 chilometri, il fiume nasce nel Vorarlberg (Austria) a 2.789 m s.l.m., attraversa il Tirolo e la Baviera meridionale, dove si getta nel Danubio. Poco davanti al confine austro-tedesco riceve le acque del Vils e dopo il confine forma la Lechfall, cascata di 12 metri. Passata Füssen (qui una diga lo sbarra creando il Forggensee) entra nella pianura bavarese, dove formava lo storico confine tra Baviera e Svevia. Continua poi il suo corso verso nord attraverso la Svevia e l'Alta Baviera in una regione chiamata Lechrain. Le principali città che sorgono sul suo corso sono Landsberg e Augusta, in corrispondenza della quale riceve il Wertach. Presso Rain confluisce nel Danubio ad una quota di 392 metri.
