The Sió or Sió-csatorna (Sió-Channel)[1] is a fully regulated river in midwest Hungary.[2] It is the outlet, at the eastern end, of Lake Balaton,[3] flowing out of the lake in Siófok. It flows into the river Danube near the city of Szekszárd. Sió flows through the Hungarian counties Somogy, Fejér and Tolna, its main tributaries are Kapos[4] from the right and Sárvíz from the left. It is 124 km (77 mi) long and its basin size is 14,693 km² (5,673 sq mi).[5] The drainage basin of Sió (including Balaton) covers more than a third of Transdanubia. Its average discharge at the mouth is 39 m³/s (1,400 cu ft/s).[5]

Esce dal lago nella città Siófok dirigendosi verso sud-est, attraversa Simontornya quindi vira verso sud, attraversa la città di Szekszárd ed alcuni chilometri ad est di questa si immette nel Danubio. Il fiume Sió attraversa le contee ungheresi Somogy, Fejér e Tolna.

Шио (венг. Sió) — канал в центральной Венгрии. Соединяет озеро Балатон с Дунаем. Начинается у города Шиофок. Построен в 292 г. н. э. римлянами, перестроен в XIX в. Имеет шлюз (у г. Шиофок). Ширина 20-30 м. Проходит через город Сексард и несколькими километрами восточнее впадает в Дунай. Канал Шио протекает через венгерские области Шомодь, Фейер и Тольна. Используется для отвода избытка воды из Балатона.
