Der Grabenbach mündet im Stadtgebiet von Meßkirch im Landkreis Sigmaringen im südlichen Baden-Württemberg von links und Westen kommend in die Ablach. Während seines rund 8,3 Kilometer langen Verlaufs wechselt er mehrfach seinen Namen: Dorfbach, Talbach, Weiherbach, Mühlenbach, Stadtbach, Grabenbach[6], in früheren Zeiten teilweise auch Heudorfer Bach[7][8][9]; so bezeichnet ihn auch heute, und zwar auf ganzer Länge, die für den Gewässerschutz zuständige Landesbehörde.[10]
