I Monti Ouachita sono costituiti prevalentemente da basse montagne, i cui vertici sono stati erosi. Costituiscono assieme all'Altopiano d'Ozark la U.S. Interior Highlands, cioè l'unica regione montuosa degli Stati Uniti compresa tra le Montagne Rocciose e gli Appalachi.

Le montagne sono ricoperte da foreste temperate di alberi decidui.

Die Ouachita Mountains oder auch Ouachitas (Aussprache [.mw-parser-output .IPA a{text-decoration:none}wɑˈʃiɾə], „wah-chi-tah“) sind eine Bergkette im westlichen Zentral-Arkansas und im südöstlichen Oklahoma (Kiamichi Country). Unter der Oberfläche setzen sie sich möglicherweise bis nach Zentral-Texas fort, vielleicht sogar noch weiter bis zum Marathon Uplift. Zusammen mit den Ozark Mountains bilden die Ouachita Mountains den Bereich der U.S. Interior Highlands, dem einzigen größeren bergigen Gebiet zwischen den Rocky Mountains im Westen und den Appalachen im Osten.[1] Ihr höchster Gipfel ist der Mount Magazine mit einer Höhe von 839 m.

The Ouachita Mountains (/ˈwɒʃɪtɔː/), simply referred to as the Ouachitas, are a mountain range in western Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma. They are formed by a thick succession of highly deformed Paleozoic strata constituting the Ouachita Fold and Thrust Belt, one of the important orogenic belts of North America.[3] The Ouachitas continue in the subsurface to the northeast, where they make a poorly understood connection with the Appalachians and to the southwest, where they join with the Marathon uplift area of West Texas.[3] Together with the Ozark Plateaus, the Ouachitas form the U.S. Interior Highlands.[4] The highest natural point is Mount Magazine at 2,753 feet.[2][5]
