A solitary peak on the eastern edge of the range, it's towering 1,300 m high north face represents one of toughest climbs in the Eastern Alps. The normal route is from the east-west Drei Törl Weg (Three Passes Trail) which passes the southern foot of the mountain. The extensive views from its summit include the rest of Lienz Dolomites, the High Tauern to the north and the Carnic Alps to the south.[2]

Der Hochstadel ist ein 2681 m ü. A. hoher Berg in den Lienzer Dolomiten auf der Grenze zwischen den österreichischen Bundesländern Tirol und Kärnten. Der Berg wird aufgrund seiner imposanten Erscheinung oft als „König des Oberdrautals“ bezeichnet. Die rund 1300 Meter hohe Nordwand bildet die höchste Felswand Österreichs und gehört zu den größten in den Ostalpen.
