Assam Himalaya is a traditional designation for the portion of the Himalaya range between the eastern border of Bhutan, on the west, and the Great Bend of the Tsangpo River, on the east. The highest peak of this range is Namcha Barwa. Other high peaks include Gyala Peri, sister peak to Namcha Barwa; Kangto, and Nyegyi Kansang. The area is still poorly surveyed in general, and little visited by outsiders. It is located in the eastern side. The name "Assam Himalaya" is misleading, as some parts of this range are in southeastern Tibet, while other parts are in Bhutan and the Indian regions and states of northern Assam, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh.[1]

Assam-Himalaya ist eine traditionelle Bezeichnung für einen Teil des Himalaya zwischen der östlichen Grenze von Bhutan im Westen bis zum Tsangpo-Fluss, dem Oberlauf des Brahmaputra, im Osten. Der Fluss grenzt den Assam-Himalaya vom östlich davon gelegenen Gebirgszug des Kangri Garpo ab.

L'Himalaya de l'Assam[1] est la chaîne de montagne la plus orientale de l'Himalaya. À la frontière entre la Chine et l'Inde, elle se situe entre le Bhoutan à l'ouest, et la grande boucle du canyon du Yarlung Tsangpo, qui entoure son point culminant le Namcha Barwa (7 782 m). Les principaux autres sommets de la chaîne sont le Gyala Peri, le Kangto, le Nyegyi Kangsang, le Gorichen et la montagne sacrée du Takpa Shiri. Elle ne se trouve pas dans l'État indien de l'Assam mais dans l'Arunachal Pradesh.
