Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte ihn im Jahr 2000 nach Christopher M. Rhone (1949–2008), Kommunikationsoffizier der Unterstützungseinheiten der United States Navy in Antarktika von 1992 bis 1994 und Leiter der Informationssysteme beim Unternehmen Antarctic Support Associates von 1994 bis 2000.

Mount Rhone is the highest peak (2,020 metres (6,630 feet)) in the Bucknell Ridge in the northeast part of the Britannia Range. Named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Christopher M. Rhone, a communications officer with the U.S. Naval Support Force, Antarctica, 1992–94; Director of Information Systems with the ASA,[clarification needed] 1994–2000.
