Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte den Berg 1992 nach Leutnant John C. Mignone von der United States Navy, der im antarktischen Winter 1966 als Kaplan auf der McMurdo-Station tätig war.

It was named in 1992 by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in association with Chaplains Tableland after Lieutenant John C. Mignone, U.S. Navy, chaplain with the 1966 winter party at McMurdo Station.[1]
