Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte ihn im Jahr 2000 nach dem US-amerikanischen Physiker und Ingenieur Daniel L. Detrick von der University of Maryland, der ab 1980 im Rahmen des United States Antarctic Program an der Entwicklung von Messinstrumenten für die Ionosphärenforschung und deren Errichtung auf der McMurdo-Station, der Amundsen-Scott-Südpolstation und der Siple-Station beteiligt war.

Detrick Peak (.mw-parser-output .geo-default,.mw-parser-output .geo-dms,.mw-parser-output .geo-dec{display:inline}.mw-parser-output .geo-nondefault,.mw-parser-output .geo-multi-punct{display:none}.mw-parser-output .longitude,.mw-parser-output .latitude{white-space:nowrap}77°32′S 169°6′E) is a sharp peak, about 700 metres (2,300 ft) high, standing 1 nautical mile (2 km) east-southeast of Lutz Hill in the Kyle Hills, Ross Island. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (2000) after Daniel L. Detrick, a physicist and engineer at the Institute for Physical Science and Technology, University of Maryland, who was involved in long-term ionospheric research with the United States Antarctic Program, including the design and fabrication, as well as deployment of instruments at McMurdo Station, South Pole Station, and Siple Station. He made more than a dozen visits to Antarctica from 1980.[1]
