География

Острова расположены в 40 км восточнее архипелага Хен и Чикенс и около 20 км северо-западнее от северной оконечности острова Грейт-Барриер. Как и Хен и Чекенс, архипелаг является ареалом редких видов флоры и фауны. Доступ на острова ограничен, для посещения необходимо разрешение[1].

На острове Бёрджесс расположен маяк, построенный в 1883 году и автоматизированный в 1980 году, свет от которого виден на расстоянии до 35 км. Высота строения — 52 м над уровнем моря[2].

The Mokohinau Islands (Pokohinau) are a small group of islands that lie off the northeast coast of New Zealand's North Island. The islands are 100 km (62 mi) northeast of Auckland, 21 km (13 mi) northwest of Great Barrier Island and approximately 52 km (32 mi) east of Bream Head. The main islands of the group include Fanal Island (Motukino), Burgess Island (Pokohinu), Flax Island (Hokoromea), and Trig Island (Atihau). Most of them are managed by the Department of Conservation as nature reserves and wildlife sanctuaries. Landing is not allowed without a permit, with the exception of Burgess Island, much of which is managed as a scenic reserve[1] by the Department of Conservation. The remainder of Burgess Island is Crown Land and is administered by the Ministry of Transport. The total land area of the Mokohinau Islands is 160 ha (400 acres).[2]

Les îles Mokohinau sont constituées qu'un petit groupe d'îles se trouvant à 100 km au nord-est d'Auckland (île du Nord - Nouvelle-Zélande, à 21 km au nord-est de l'île de la Grande Barrière et 52 km au bout de Bream Head (en), péninsule protégeant le port de Whangarei. Les îles principales se nomment Motukino, Hokoromea, Atihau et Pokohinu. La plupart d'entre elles sont gérées par le Ministère de la Conservation en tant que réserve naturelle ou aire protégée pour les oiseaux. Ellesne sont pas accessibles au public, sauf celle de Pokohinu qui est un Country park (en).
