Местная железнодорожная станция была открыта 13 мая 1895 года, но 1 октября 1937 года была закрыта[3].

Acaill (auch Oileán Acla; anglisiert Achill Island) ist eine Insel in der Grafschaft Mayo und mit 146 km² die größte Insel Irlands abgesehen von der Hauptinsel. Auf Acaill leben 2569 Menschen (Stand: 2011). Rund 87 Prozent der Insel sind von Torfmooren bedeckt. Die Insel ist über die Michael Davitt Bridge (bei der Ortschaft Gob an Choire im Osten der Insel) mit dem Festland der Halbinsel An Corrán verbunden.

Achill Island (/ˈækəl/; Irish: Acaill, Oileán Acla) in County Mayo is the largest of the Irish isles, and is situated off the west coast of Ireland. It has a population of 2,594.[2] Its area is 148 km2 (57 sq mi). Achill is attached to the mainland by Michael Davitt Bridge, between the villages of Gob an Choire (Achill Sound) and Poll Raithní (Polranny). A bridge was first completed here in 1887. Other centres of population include the villages of Keel, Dooagh, Dumha Éige (Dooega), Dún Ibhir (Dooniver), and Dugort. The parish's main Gaelic football pitch and secondary school are on the mainland at Poll Raithní. Early human settlements are believed to have been established on Achill around 3000 BC. The island is 87% peat bog.[citation needed] The parish of Achill consists of Achill Island, Achillbeg, Inishbiggle and the Corraun Peninsula.

C’est un pont tournant qui permet le passage de petits bateaux. Le pont a été construit en 1886 et remplacé par la structure actuelle après la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
