L'île Babel (en anglais Babel Island) est une île granitique d'une superficie de 4,4 km², située au sud-est de l'Australie. Elle fait partie de l'archipel tasmanien de Babel, dans la partie orientale du détroit de Bass, au large de la côte Est de l'île Flinders (qui fait partie de l'archipel Furneaux). Elle accueille la plus grande colonie au monde de puffins à bec grêle (environ 2,8 millions de couples, soit environ 12 % de la population mondiale), ainsi qu'une importante colonie de manchots pygmées.

The Babel Island, part of the Babel Group within the Furneaux Group, is a 440-hectare (1,100-acre) granite island, located in Bass Strait, lying off the east coast of Flinders Island, Tasmania, south of Victoria, Australia.[2][1] The privately owned[3] island was named by Matthew Flinders from the noises made by the seabirds there.[4]

Babel Island è un'isola del Babel Group, un sottogruppo delle isole Furneaux in Tasmania (Australia). L'isola appartiene alla municipalità di Flinders. Altre isole del Babel Group sono Cat Island e Storehouse Island. L'isola ha ricevuto questo nome da Matthew Flinders per il rumore prodotto dagli uccelli marini. Nel 1995 il titolo di proprietà di Babel Island è stato conferito al Consiglio per le terre aborigene della Tasmania (Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania).[1]
