L'île Yanggak, sur le fleuve Taedong, représente le plus ancien lieu de peuplement de Pyongyang, actuelle capitale de la république populaire démocratique de Corée. Une cité s'est développée dans le sud de l'île il y a 2000 ans (source : Robert Willoughby, The Bradt Travel Guide. North Korea, éditions Bradt, 2003, Londres, p. 98).

L'île Yanggak abrite aujourd'hui l'un des deux hôtels internationaux de Pyongyang, l'hôtel Yanggakdo, inauguré en 1995, haut de 47 étages. Un complexe cinématographique, un stade de football et un golf sont également installés dans l'île (source : ibid., p. 108).

Yanggakdo, or Yanggak Island is a small island in the Taedong River, located about two kilometers to the south-east of the centre of the North Korean capital city Pyongyang. It is connected to the northern and southern side of Pyongyang by the Yanggak Bridge, which spans the island and separates it into a northeastern and southwestern part. The name means "Rams horn island" and is said to be derived from its shape.
