Reem Island (Arabic: جزيرة الريم) is a natural island located 600 metres off the coast of Abu Dhabi island. It is a mixed purpose community with both residential, retail and commercial units.

Sorouh Real Estate, now merged with Aldar Properties PJSC, Reem Investments, and Tamouh are independently developing parts of the island with projects like Shams Abu Dhabi. Reem Developers[1] define the overall dimensions of the project as 2 meters square metres and investment costs as exceeding $30 billion. The project has gained international interest as one of the first free zones in Abu Dhabi, where foreign nationals can buy property on a 50-year leasehold basis.
The handing over of units in Al Reem Island was significantly delayed due to a couple of reasons[2] but during the first quarter of 2011, the handing over process began.[3]
In March 2013, Repton announced that it will be opening a campus in Al Reem Island, and opened its first location in 2013 and a second location in 2014.[4]
On 1 December 2014 Ibolya Ryan a British teacher was stabbed to death by a woman in a black niqab and wearing gloves, the stabbing occurred after the two woman supposedly had an argument inside a bathroom at Boutik Mall. Surveillance video was captured of the event. The suspect was identified as Alaa Bader Abdullah. she was executed in 2015.
In December 2018, Reem Central Park, a one-million-square-foot recreational space, opened on the island. It includes a canal walk, skateboard park, 3 basketball courts, a football court, table tennis courts etc. and several food outlets including 800 Degrees Pizzeria, Taqado Mexican Kitchen and Urban Seafood.
Reem Mall is Abu Dhabi's new mega-sized shopping centre, the world's first omnichannel mall, and one of the region's most extensive snow parks. It is located on Reem Island, right in the heart of Abu Dhabi City. Its total land area is around 2.8 million square feet, the largest car park with 6,800 spaces and houses around 400 international and local brands.
It features around 85 restaurants and cafes, lifestyle, shopping and other family entertainment offerings like Vox Cinemas, Carrefour Hypermarket, SharafDG electronics and the iconic snow park, a winter wonderland for Abu Dhabi and 57 million GCC customers.
