Hauptort	Barkestad

Der Hauptort der Insel ist Barkestad, der um 1970 verlassen worden ist. Die Gründe hierfür sind in der fehlenden Infrastruktur, die auch die Nachbarinseln Skogsøya, Tindsøya und Nærøya betreffen, für die moderne Zeit zu suchen.

Der ehemalige Anlaufhafen der Hurtigruten Barkestad hatte eine sehr alte Tradition als Fischerort, wurde aber mit der Zeit zu unrentabel. Ins Deutsche übersetzt, lautet der Name der Insel „Tierinsel“, was auf eine saisonbedingte Haltung von Haus- oder Rentieren hindeutet.

Dyrøya is a small island in Øksnes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located off the west coast of the large island of Langøya in the Vesterålen archipelago. The small islands of Nærøya and Tindsøya lie to the west and the island of Skogsøya lies to the north. The 6.5-square-kilometre (2.5 sq mi) island has one village, Barkestad, and there are only 4 residents on this island (in 2017). There are no road connections to the island, so all residents must use boats. The highest point on the island is the 562-metre (1,844 ft) tall mountain Blåtinden.[1]

Dyrøya è una piccola isola norvegese facente parte dell'arcipelago delle Vesterålen, nel mare di Norvegia, appena più a nord del circolo polare artico. Amministrativamente appartiene al territorio del comune di Øksnes, il quale però si estende anche all'isola di Langøya.
