Travers Island ist eine Halbinsel mit einer Fläche von etwa 0,2 km² im Long Island Sound in der Stadt New Rochelle im Westchester County, New York.[1][2][3] Sie befindet sich zwischen Neptune Island, Glen Island und der zur Bronx gehörenden Halbinsel Hunter Island.

Auf Travers Island befindet sich seit 1887 das Sommercamp des New York Athletic Club, das durch sein Stadion für viele Leichtathleten optimale Trainingsmöglichkeiten bot und immer noch bietet.[4][5]

Noch 1892 war Travers Island eine Insel, die zu den Pelham-Inseln gehörte und über einen Damm mit dem Festland verbunden war.[4] Später wurde das Terrain zwischen Insel und Festland aufgeschüttet, so dass Travers Island zu einer Halbinsel wurde.

Travers Island is a former island in Long Island Sound, located in the city of New Rochelle, New York.[1][2][3] The island, originally united by a causeway to the mainland, comprises a tract of thirty acres in the Lower Harbor of New Rochelle, situated between Neptune Island, Glen Island and Hunter Island in New York City's Pelham Bay Park. The narrow strip of water originally making it an island was eventually filled in, converting this tract into a peninsula.
