Il fiume Olt (in passato conosciuto con il nome latino di Alutus) è uno dei più importanti fiumi della Romania. La sorgente è situata sul Monte Hășmașul Mare nei Carpazi orientali non lontana dalla sorgente del fiume Mureș; infatti sono anche detti essere i Fiumi fratelli.
Percorre i distretti di Hargita, Covasna, Brașov, Sibiu, Vâlcea Olt, Teleorman.
Le principali città attraversate dal fiume sono: Miercurea Ciuc, Sfântu Gheorghe, Făgăraș, Râmnicu Vâlcea e Slatina. Nel suo tratto inferiore segna il confine tra le due regioni storiche dell'Oltenia e della Muntenia.

Der Olt (deutsch Alt; ungarisch Olt; von lateinisch lut =Lehm, röm. aluta) ist ein linker Nebenfluss der Donau in Rumänien mit einer Länge von 615 Kilometern. Kurz vor der Mündung in die Donau erreicht der Fluss eine Wasserführung von 190 m³/s. Er ist auch Namensgeber des rumänischen Kreises Olt.

The Olt (Romanian and Hungarian; German: Alt; Latin: Aluta or Alutus, Turkish: Oltu, Ancient Greek: Ἄλυτος Alytos) is a river in Romania.[1][2] It is 615 km (382 mi) long, and its basin area is 24,050 km2 (9,290 sq mi).[2][3] It is the longest river flowing exclusively through Romania. Its average discharge at the mouth is 174 m3/s (6,100 cu ft/s).[3] Its source is in the Hășmaș Mountains of the eastern Carpathian Mountains, near Bălan, rising close to the headwaters of the river Mureș. It flows through the Romanian counties Harghita, Covasna, Brașov, Sibiu, Vâlcea and Olt. The river was known as Alutus or Aluta in Roman antiquity. Olt County and the historical province of Oltenia are named after the river.
