Il fiume Arachthos (greco: Άραχθος) è un fiume dell'Epiro orientale in Grecia. Ha origine nella catena montuosa del Pindo, nasce a sudest di Metsovo nella Prefettura di Giannina ai confini della Prefettura di Trikala e attraversa numerosi villaggi fino ad arrivare nella Prefettura di Arta dove viene sbarrato dalla diga dell'Arachthos, formando un bacino di circa 20 km² che previene l'allagamento della città e nel contempo garantisce una riserva d'acqua per l'intera regione dell'Epiro. In prossimità di Arta il fiume scorre sotto lo storico ponte in pietra. Il fiume scorre in seguito in una vasta e fertile pianura per poi sfociare nel Golfo di Arta a sud della città.

Der Arachthos (griechisch Άραχθος, auch Artotinos oder Potamos tis Artas ‚Fluss von Arta‘) ist ein Fluss in der Region Epirus in Griechenland. Er entspringt südlich von Metsovo und nordöstlich von Ioannina im Regionalbezirk Ioannina im Pindos-Gebirge (Lakmos-Massiv) und fließt in südwestlicher Richtung auf das Ionische Meer zu, in das er nach 110 Kilometern im Ambrakischen Golf südlich von Arta mündet.[en] Arachthos (river)
The Arachthos (Greek: Άραχθος) is a river in eastern Epirus, Greece. Its source is in the Pindus mountains, near the town Metsovo (Ioannina regional unit). It is 110 km (68 mi) long,[1] and its drainage area is 2,209 km2 (853 sq mi).[2] Its upper course is known as Metsovitikos. From its confluence with the Dipotamos near the village of Batza it is called Arachthos. It flows towards the south, passing between the Athamanika and the Xerovouni mountains. In this place meets the Plaka Bridge, the largest one-arch stone bridge in Greece. It enters the large Pournari Reservoir, in the Arta regional unit, which is about 18 km² and prevents flooding of the city of Arta and also supplies water to most of Epirus. The town of Peta is situated near the dam. Arta, about 8 km downstream of the dam, is the largest town on the river. Arta's historic landmark is the stone Bridge of Arta over the Arachthos. The river continues through the lowlands south of Arta, and finally empties into the Ambracian Gulf near Kommeno, 16 km southeast of Arta.- [it] Arachthos (fiume)
