Toponymie

Le lac a reçu ce nom en mémoire de l'explorateur et cartographe Peter Pond qui arpenta cette région au XVIII^e siècle en passant par le Portage La Loche et en établissant le Fort Chipewyan.

Climat

Le lac Peter Pond peut geler dès le mois de novembre et demeurer gelé jusqu'en mai. Il s'étend dans un paysage de taïga.

Faune

Le lac comprend plusieurs espèces de poissons dont le doré jaune, le doré noir, la perchaude, le grand brochet, le touladi, le grand corégone, le meunier noir, le meunier rouge et la lotte.

Peter Pond Lake ist ein See glazialen Ursprungs in der kanadischen Provinz Saskatchewan. Er liegt im Nordwesten von Saskatchewan in borealem Wald und innerhalb des Kanadischen Schilds. Der See liegt des Weiteren im Einzugsgebiet des Churchill River. Der Peter Pond Lake lag an der Pelzhandelsroute zur Methye Portage, welche das östliche Kanada mit dem Mackenzie-River-Gebiet verband. Der See ist von langer ovaler Gestalt mit einer Hauptachse nach Nordwesten. Eine Halbinsel, welche beinahe bis an das Westufer des Sees reicht, teilt den See in den Big Peter Pond (nördliche 2/3) und den Little Peter Pond. Am Ostufer wird der Little Peter Pond durch einen schmalen Isthmus vom Churchill Lake getrennt.

Peter Pond Lake is a glacial lake in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located in northwestern Saskatchewan in the Boreal Forest and Canadian Shield within the Churchill River drainage basin. It was on the fur trade route to the Methye Portage which connected eastern Canada to the MacKenzie River area. The lake is a long oval tending to the northwest. A peninsula which almost reaches the west shore divides it into Big Peter Pond (the northern two thirds) and Little Peter Pond. On the east side of Little Peter Pond a narrow isthmus separates it from Churchill Lake, the two forming a broad "V". The La Loche River, which drains Lac La Loche comes in from the north while the Dillon River, with the village of Dillon at its mouth, comes in from the west. The lake drains into Churchill Lake through the Kisis Channel at Buffalo Narrows, Saskatchewan. Originally called Big and Little Buffalo Lakes, it was renamed after Peter Pond in 1931.[3] It is on Highway 155 which passes through Buffalo Narrows.

Высота над уровнем моря 421 метр, колебания уровня озера до 0,5 метра. Ледостав с ноября по май[2]. Острова — Казан и Чертьер.
