The lake is located in the Bavarian Forest National Park (Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald), which is Germany's first national park and part of the largest single forest area in Central Europe.[1]

Latschensee is a popular destination for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, featuring a boardwalk that leads to a scenic overview. The lake, also referred to as a bog pond, is surrounded by spruce and other trees, grasses, moss and dwarf shrubs.[2][3]

Der Latschensee, im Volksmund auch Kohlweiher genannt, tschechisch Klečové jezírko, ist ein abflussloser Hochmoorsee im Bayerischen Wald. Er gehört zur Gemeinde Lindberg und liegt im Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald. Das nächstgelegene Dorf ist Buchenau in der Gemeinde Lindberg, fünf Kilometer westlich (Luftlinie). Die Schachten Hochschachten und Kohlschachten liegen wenige hundert Meter südwestlich bzw. nördlich des Sees.
