Fu mappato inizialmente dalla prima spedizione antartica (1928-30) dell'esploratore polare statunitense Byrd e successivamente mappato più dettagliatamente dall'U.S. Geological Survey sulla base di ispezioni in loco e foto aeree scattate dalla U.S. Navy nel periodo 1960-64.

La denominazione fu assegnata in onore di Kennett L. Rawson, che aveva contribuito alla prima spedizione antartica di Byrd (1928-30) e aveva preso parte alla seconda (1933-35).[1]

The Rawson Plateau is an ice-covered plateau, 15 miles (24 km) long and 3,400 metres (11,150 ft) high, rising between the heads of Bowman Glacier, Moffett Glacier and Steagall Glacier in the Queen Maud Mountains. It was mapped by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition (ByrdAE), 1928–30, and by the U.S. Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1960–64, and named for Kennett L. Rawson, a contributor to the ByrdAE, 1928–30, and a member of the ByrdAE, 1933–35.

Le plateau Rawson (en anglais : Rawson Plateau) est un massif montagneux de la chaîne de la Reine-Maud, dans la chaîne Transantarctique, en Antarctique. Son point culminant, le mont Alice Gade, s'élève à 3 410 mètres d'altitude. Il est bordé au nord par le glacier Bowman et à l'est par le glacier Amundsen. Le plateau à proprement parler, d'une longueur de 25 kilomètres, occupe la partie occidentale du massif.
