Il Nevado Mismi è una montagna di 5.597 metri, di origine vulcanica, situata nel sud delle Ande peruviane, a circa 160 km a ovest del lago Titicaca e 700 km a sud-est della capitale del Perù, Lima, nella regione di Arequipa, uno dei punti più elevati del Colca Canyon. Sono presenti diversi ghiacciai sulla sua vetta.

Un flusso di acqua di origine glaciale sul Nevado Mismi è stato identificato come la fonte più lontana del Rio delle Amazzoni nel 1996[1]; questa ipotesi è stata confermata nel 2001[2] e ancora nel 2007[3]: tale flusso d'acqua fluisce poi nel Quebradas Carhuasanta e nell'Apacheta, che sfociano poi nel Rio Apurimac che a sua volta è un affluente dell'Ucayali, che si unisce infine al Marañón per formare appunto il Rio delle Amazzoni.

Mismi is a 5,597-metre (18,363 ft) mountain peak of volcanic origin in the Chila mountain range in the Andes of Peru. A glacial stream on the Mismi was firmly identified as the most distant source of the Amazon River in 1996;[1] this finding was confirmed in 2001[2] and again in 2007.[3] This claim has been challenged with three locations for the source of the Amazon identified, depending upon the definition of "source."[4] The waters from Mismi flow into the streams Carhuasanta and Apachita, which flow into the Apurímac River. It is a tributary of the Ucayali which later joins the Marañón to form the Amazon proper.
