Fu fotografato dagli aerei della U.S. Navy nel 1967 e ispezionato successivamente nel 1968-71 dalla British Antarctic Survey. Ricevette questa denominazione nel 1971 dal Comitato britannico per i toponimi antartici in associazione con il gruppo degli esploratori polari presenti nella zona, in onore del chimico e fisico scozzese James Dewar, che aveva inventato la bottiglia termica comunemente chiamata "thermos".[1]

Mount Dewar ist ein etwa 1600 m (nach Angaben des UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee rund 1500 m) hoher Berg im ostantarktischen Coatsland. Er ragt südwestlich des Aronson Corner im Pioneers Escarpment der Shackleton Range auf.

It was photographed from the air by the U.S. Navy in 1967 and surveyed by the British Antarctic Survey from 1968 to 1971. In association with the names of pioneers of polar life and travel grouped in this area, it was named in 1971 by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee after Sir James Dewar, a Scottish chemist and physicist who invented the thermos flask about 1892.[1]
