Sulle Mendip Hills sono un'area di rilevante interesse archeologico: vi sono stati rinvenuti terrapieni neolitici, tumuli dell'Età del Bronzo e fortificazioni risalenti all'Età del Ferro.[1][3]

Die Mendip Hills, auch Mendips genannt, sind ein aus verkarstetem Kalkstein bestehender Höhenzug im Südwesten Englands. Er befindet sich 25 km südlich von Bristol im Norden von Somerset.

The Mendip Hills (commonly called the Mendips) is a range of limestone hills to the south of Bristol and Bath in Somerset, England. Running from Weston-super-Mare and the Bristol Channel in the west to the Frome valley in the east, the hills overlook the Somerset Levels to the south and the Chew Valley and other tributaries of the Avon to the north.[1] The hills give their name to the local government district of Mendip, which administers most of the area. The higher, western part of the hills, covering 198 km2 (76 sq mi) has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which gives it a level of protection comparable to a national park.[2]

Les collines de Mendip, en anglais Mendip Hills, communément appelées The Mendips, sont des collines situées dans le Somerset, en Angleterre, au sud-ouest des villes de Bristol et de Bath. Elles culminent à 325 mètres d'altitude à Black Down. Principalement constituées de calcaire, avec du grès et des roches volcaniques, elles présentent un relief karstique prononcé, avec un plateau sommital où s'enfonce un important réseau souterrain, des versants entrecoupés de gorges et des piémonts où ressurgissent les cours d'eau. Ceux-ci sont alimentés par d'importantes précipitations provoquées par le climat tempéré humide de la région. Les nombreuses prairies naturelles couvrant la partie supérieure des collines ont été aménagées par l'homme, notamment pour y pratiquer l'élevage. L'essentiel de la population, longtemps restée démunie en raison de son relatif isolement, se concentre dans leur partie basse.
