Sono state mappate dall'United States Geological Survey (USGS) sulla base di rilevazioni e foto aeree scattate dalla U.S. Navy nel periodo 1958-60.

La denominazione è stata assegnata dall'Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in onore di William E. Long, geologo che aveva partecipato alla traversata dei Monti Horlick nel 1958-59 e aveva fatto parte della spedizione dell'Ohio State University nei Monti Horlick nel 1960-61 e 1961-62.[1]

Knack Point marks the north end of the Long Hills.[1] They were mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy aerial photographs, 1958–60, and were named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for William E. Long, a geologist with the Horlick Mountains Traverse, 1958–59, and also a member of the Ohio State University expedition to the Horlick Mountains in 1960–61 and 1961–62.[2]
