Il Jabal al-Nūr (anche Jabal Nūr), (in arabo: جبل النور‎), che significa "Montagna di Luce", è una collina alta 642 metri circa, poco a NE della Città Santa di Mecca (Arabia Saudita).

Descrizione

Originariamente chiamata Monte Ḥirāʾ, ospita la celeberrima caverna (in arabo: غار حراء‎, Ghār Ḥirāʾ) in cui il profeta musulmano Maometto ricevette nel 610 dall'angelo Gabriele[1] la prima rivelazione, costituita dagli iniziali 5 versetti della Sūra XCVI.
È questo il motivo per il suo successivo nome, dal momento che con esso si vuole ricordare la "luce divina" (nūr rabbanī) che illuminò il Profeta per il resto della sua vita.

Jabal an-Nour (Arabic: جَبَل ٱلنُّوْر, romanized: Jabal an-Nūr, lit. 'Mountain of the Light' or 'Hill of the Illumination') is a mountain near Mecca in the Hejaz region of Saudi Arabia.[1] The mountain houses the grotto or cave of Hira' (Arabic: غَار حِرَاء, romanized: Ghar-i-Hira, lit. 'Cave of Hira'), which holds tremendous significance for Muslims throughout the world, as the Islamic prophet Muhammad is said to have spent time in this cave meditating, and it is widely believed that it was here that he received his first revelation, which consisted of the first five ayats of Surah Al-Alaq from the angel Jibra'il (as is pronounced in certain Quran recitation schools and some Arab tribes; also known as Gabriel).[2] It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Makkah. The mountain itself is barely 640 m (2,100 ft) tall; nonetheless one to two hours are needed to make the strenuous hike to the cave. There are 1750 steps to the top which, even for a fit individual, can take anywhere between half an hour and one-and-a-half hours.

Jabal al-Nour ou Jabal al-Nur ou Jabal Nur (en arabe : جبل النور [jabal an-nūr]), oronyme signifiant littéralement « la montagne de la lumière », est une montagne d'Arabie saoudite située à 4 km au nord-ouest de La Mecque et culminant à 642 m. Elle abrite la grotte de Hira où Mahomet affirme avoir reçu sa première révélation d'Allah au travers de l'ange Jibril.
