Fu individuata nel 1955-58 durante i voli di ricognizione dalla Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE), che le assegnò anche l'attuale denominazione. Venne poi ispezionata e mappata dalla CTAE nel 1957.[1]

Der Flat Top (englisch für Flachgipfel) ist ein 1330 m hoher und markanter Tafelberg mit steilen Felsenkliffs im ostantarktischen Coatsland. Im westlichen Abschnitt der Shackleton Range ragt er 6 km nordöstlich der Lister Heights auf.

First seen and given this descriptive name during the early reconnaissance flights of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1955–58. Visited and mapped by the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition in 1957.
