Il monte è costituito da materiale roccioso e presenta una vegetazione composta da pini e arbusti sul lato nord. Sulla montagna si erge la rocca medievale di Alicante, il Castillo de Santa Bárbara mentre alle sue pendici si trova il parco de la Ereta e i barrios (quartieri) di Santa Cruz, San Roque, San Anton e il Raval Roig nonché un vecchio parcheggio che è diventato negli ultimi anni un punto abituale per i botellones.

Der Benacantil ist ein 167 Meter hoher Berg im Stadtzentrum von Alicante. Er gehört zu den beliebtesten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt, nicht zuletzt wegen der sogenannten „Cara del moro“ (deutsch Maurengesicht) an der Silhouette des Berges. Auf dem Berg befinden sich das Castillo de Santa Bárbara sowie mehrere kleine Wohnviertel. Die Bergspitze bietet einen hervorragenden Ausblick auf die Stadt und das Mittelmeer.

Mount Benacantil (Valencian pronunciation: [benakanˈtil]) is a mount (or rather a large hill) that dominates the urban part of Alicante, and is the characteristic image of the city. The mount name appears as Banu-l-Qatil in the work of Muslim geographer Al-Idrisi in the 12th century, but it is possible that this is an error of transcription (Arab names like "beni" are abundant on the peninsula; the name means "family tree") because it does not make sense in Arabic (it would be "the family of the murderer"). Compared with other names in the Valencian Community, the mount name is more likely to be derived from the word "benna", an Arabic transcription of "pinna", which is "rock" in Latin; combined with the adjective "laqanti", which comes from "Laqant," the Arabic name of the city. Therefore, a half Roman, half Arabic toponym, "Benna Laqanti".[1]
