Das Helan-Gebirge bzw. Helan Shan (chinesisch .mw-parser-output .Hani{font-size:110%}贺兰山; mongolisch ᠎‍᠎‍‌᠍ᠠᠯᠠᠱᠠ᠎‍‌᠍᠎‍᠎‍‌᠍᠎‍‌᠍ᠠᠭᠤᠯᠠ Alaša aɣula)[1] ist ein nordwestlich von Yinchuan gelegener über 200 km langer und 15–50 km breiter, durchschnittlich mehr als 2000 m hoher Gebirgszug, der die Grenze zwischen der Inneren Mongolei und Ningxia bildet. Sein höchster Gipfel ist 3556 m hoch.

The Helan Mountains, frequently called Alashan Mountains in older sources, are an isolated desert mountain range forming the border of Inner Mongolia's Alxa League and Ningxia. They run north-south parallel to the north-flowing Yellow River in the Ordos Loop section. The river is mostly east of the mountains, but in the north it crosses without making a significant gorge and flows on the west side. To the west lies the extremely arid Tengger Desert, while to the east is an irrigated area beside the Yellow River, in which lie the cities of Yinchuan and Shizuishan - a little further east of which lies the Mu Us portion of the Ordos Desert. To the north lies the Inner Mongolian city of Wuhai.

Las montañas Helan (en chino, 贺兰山; pinyin, Hèlán Shān, frecuentemente llamadas montañas Alashan en mongol, Алшаан уулс ᠎‍᠎‍‌᠍ᠠᠯᠠᠱᠠ᠎‍‌᠍᠎‍ ᠎‍‌᠍᠎‍‌᠍ᠠᠭᠤᠯᠠ Alaša aγula) en fuentes antiguas, es una cordillera aislada de montañas desérticas de la República Popular China que forman la frontera entre la Liga Alxa de Mongolia Interior y Ningxia. La cordillera corre en dirección N-S, paralela al río Amarillo que discurre hacia el norte en la sección del bucle de Ordos. El río está en su mayoría al este de las montañas, pero en el norte las cruza por una importante garganta para luego ir hacia el oeste, donde se encuentra un desierto severo. Al este se encuentra una zona de regadío con las ciudades de Yinchuan y Shizuishan.

I monti Helan, noti più comunemente con il vecchio nome di monti Alashan, sono una catena montuosa desertica e isolata che costituisce il confine tra la lega dell'Alxa (Mongolia Interna) e il Ningxia. Corrono da nord a sud parallelamente al fiume Giallo, che scorre verso nord nella regione dell'altopiano dell'Ordos. Il fiume scorre prevalentemente a est delle montagne, ma nel settore settentrionale esso le attraversa senza formare una gola particolarmente imponente e scorre lungo il loro margine occidentale. Nel settore occidentale delle montagne il paesaggio è costituito da un deserto molto arido, mentre in quello orientale l'area è ben irrigata e vi sorgono le città di Yinchuan e Shizuishan.
