Le mont Séïr ou montagne de Séïr (hébreu : הַר-שֵׂעִיר; Har Se'ir ; s'r en langue hébraïque canonique, vocalisé en sari ou saru, soit « seigneur » en akkadien). Il désigne une région montagneuse où selon la Bible Ésaü et les siens se sont installés après avoir quitté le pays de Canaan[1]. Son nom vient de Séïr, le Horien, dont les fils habitaient le mont[2]. Les enfants d'Esaü luttèrent contre ceux-ci[3] et finirent par prendre des femmes parmi ce peuple qui vivait dans les grottes.

Il est aussi dit être le lieu où « les Amalek qui avaient fui » furent annihilés par cinq cents Siméonites[4].

Mount Seir (Hebrew: הַר-שֵׂעִיר, Har Sēʿīr) is the ancient and biblical name for a mountainous region stretching between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba in the northwestern region of Edom and southeast of the Kingdom of Judah. It may also have marked the older historical limit of Ancient Egypt in Canaan.[1] A place called "Seir, in the land of Shasu" (ta-Shasu se`er, t3-sh3sw s`r), thought to be near Petra, Jordan, is listed in the temple of Amenhotep III at Soleb (ca. 1380 BC).[citation needed]

Le montagne di Seir sono identificate con la catena di rilievi fra il golfo di Aqaba e il Mar Morto, al confine orientale del territorio della tribù di Giuda, indicata in arabo come Jibāl ash-Sharāh. Il monte Seir dovrebbe esserne una vetta.
