Это крупнейший из двенадцати островов группы Кеппел. Грейт-Кеппел занимает территорию 14.5 км²[1]. Протяжённость острова с севера на юг 5,6 км, с востока на запад — 6,4 км. Территория острова преимущественно равнинная. Высшая точка — 161 метр над уровнем моря[2]. Грейт-Кеппел является частью национального Морского парка Большого Барьерного рифа^[en]. Многочисленные пляжи острова привлекают большое количество туристов[3]. Остров известен своим разнообразием рыб[1].

Die Keppel Islands sind eine Inselgruppe mit insgesamt 18 Inseln vor der Nordostküste Australiens. Namensgeber ist Admiral Augustus Keppel, 1. Viscount Keppel. Great Keppel Island ist die größte Insel, auf ihr gibt es Tourismus und einen Flughafen.[1] Bis zur Schließung des großen Resorts 2007 war Great Keppel Island als Junge-Leute- und Party-Insel bekannt.

Great Keppel Island (Indigenous names: Woppaburra, Wop-Pa, Wapparaburra) lies 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from the coast off Yeppoon in the Shire of Livingstone, Queensland, Australia.[1] It is part of the Capricorn Coast of Central Queensland. The island is the largest of the eighteen islands in the Keppel Group, and covers an area of 1308 hectares. It is within the local government area of Shire of Livingstone (between 2008 and 2013, it was within the Rockhampton Region).
