Cockatoo island ha una superficie di 6,08 km²[1]. Si trova nella parte nord-est dell'arcipelago tra Irvine Island e Koolan Island.
Storia
Sull'isola sono avvenute estrazioni di minerali ferrosi da parte della BHP Billiton (come sulla vicina Koolan Island) dal 1951 al 1984. Nel 1952 l'isola contava 250 abitanti.[2] Cockatoo Island è ora di proprietà della società mineraria Pluton Resources, di Perth[3].

Cockatoo Island is an island in the Buccaneer Archipelago off the coast of Western Australia near the town of Derby. It was mined for iron ore by the Broken Hill Proprietary Company from 1951 until 1984. Koolan Island is a neighbouring island that was also mined by BHP for high grade iron ore.
