È situata 9 km a nord-est di Itaca e 8 km a sud-ovest di Kastos e si trova poco a nord-est della rotta del traghetti Brindisi- Patrasso. L'isola ha coste frastagliate, vi sono due baie in cui possono attraccare le imbarcazioni, l'altitudine massima è 334 m s.l.m. Nei pressi si trova il piccolo isolotto disabitato di Omfori.
Vi si trovano due edifici, un'abitazione e una piccola cappella. L'isola è proprietà privata.
Insieme alle isole di Meganisi, Arkoudi e Vromonas fa parte del Sito di interesse comunitario Esoteriko Archipelagos Ioniou (Meganisi, Arkoudi, Atokos, Vromonas) (GR2220003)[1]

Atokos (griechisch Άτοκος (f. sg.), wörtlich ‚unfruchtbar, ungeboren‘ wegen der kargen Vegetation) ist eine Insel im Ionischen Meer, rund neun Kilometer nordöstlich Ithakas. Sie erstreckt sich über rund 4,5 km², erhebt sich bis auf 334 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel und gehört zum Territorium der Gemeinde Ithaka.[en] Atokos
Atokos (Greek: Άτοκος) is a small, uninhabited Greek island in the Ionian Sea off the coast of Acarnania and is one of the most westerly and perhaps remotest of the Echinades Islands.[1][2] As of 2011[update], it had no resident population.[3] It lies 9 kilometres (6 miles) northeast of Ithaca and 8 kilometres (5 miles) southwest of Kastos, just northeast of the main shipping and ferry channel between Brindisi in Italy and Patras on the Peloponnese. From such large vessels you can get a reasonable view of the southwestern end (narrow aspect) of the island and its steep cliffs. To approach it and land requires a private boat, and safe anchorage is advisable only in calm weather at one of its two key anchorages: One House Bay on the east coast and Cliff Bay on the south coast. The former is the preferred option as it shelters boats from the prevailing northwest winds and has better access to the island via a pebbled beach and small flat hinterland.- [it] Atokos
