Géographie

Située dans le Sud des îles Gulf, entre l'île Gabriola et l'île de Vancouver, elle mesure environ 800 m de large sur 4 km de longueur.

Histoire

Elle a été nommée en l'honneur de William Fitzwilliam Mudge (1831-1863), un officier du HMS Plumper sous les ordres de George Henry Richards qui visita la région en 1859.

Population

60 habitants y vivent de manière permanente. Lors de la saison estivale, cette population passe à plus de 200 habitants.

Mudge Island ist eine Insel in der kanadischen Provinz British Columbia. Sie gehört zu den südlichen Gulf Islands in der Strait of Georgia und befindet sich zwischen Gabriola Island und Vancouver Island südöstlich von Nanaimo. Sie ist etwa 800 m breit und 4 km lang. Verwaltungstechnisch gehört die Insel zum Regional District of Nanaimo und dort, zusammen mit Gabriola Island und De Courcy Island, zum Bezirk B.

Mudge Island is one of the Southern Gulf Islands in the Salish Sea, in British Columbia (BC), Canada. It lies between Gabriola Island and Vancouver Island, and is considered part of the De Courcy group of islands. It is about 0.8 km (0.50 mi) wide and 4 km (2.5 mi) long. Dodd Narrows separates Mudge Island from Vancouver Island and False Narrows separates it from Gabriola Island. The northern tip of the island is the southern limit of the Port of Nanaimo and the southern most point of Northumberland Channel. Stuart Channel is south of Mudge Island.
