Histoire

L'île est nommée d'après l'aspirant John Walden qui avait participé à une expédition arctique en 1773 à bord de l'HMS Carcass.

Les Sjuøyane ainsi que ses eaux environnantes sont incluses dans la réserve naturelle de Nordaust-Svalbard (1973).

Waldenøya ist eine unbewohnte Felseninsel im Norden der zu Norwegen gehörenden Inselgruppe Spitzbergen. Sie liegt nordöstlich von Nordaustlandet sowie westlich der kleinen Inselgruppe Sjuøyane („Sieben Inseln“). Anderen Quellen zufolge gehört Waldenøya als achte Insel zu den Sjuøyane.[1]
