Rosamel Island (63°34′S 56°17′W) is a circular island 1.9 km (1.2 mi) in diameter with precipitous cliffs of volcanic rock rising to a snow-covered peak 435 m (1,427 ft) high, lying west of Dundee Island in the south entrance to Antarctic Sound.[1] It is part of the James Ross Island Volcanic Group.[2]

The island was discovered by the French expedition, 1837–40, under Captain Jules Dumont d'Urville, and named by him for V. Admiral Claude de Rosamel, French Minister of Marine under whose orders the expedition sailed.[1]

Die Rosamel-Insel (französisch Île Rosamel) ist eine runde Insel mit einem Durchmesser von 1,5 km vor der Nordspitze der Antarktischen Halbinsel. In der südlichen Einfahrt zum Antarctic-Sund liegt sie westlich der Dundee-Insel. Die Insel besitzt markante Kliffs aus vulkanischen Gestein und steigt im Zentrum auf 435 m Höhe in Form eines schneebedeckten Bergs an.
