Pyrites Island (in Argentinien Islote Pirita) ist die größte dreier kleiner Inseln vor der Nordküste von King George Island im Archipel der Südlichen Shetlandinseln. Diese liegen südöstlich des Gam Point auf der Ostseite des Esther Harbour.

Der schottische Geologe David Ferguson (1857–1936) benannte im Zuge seiner Erkundungsreise (1913–1914) den nördlichen Ausläufer des Gam Point gemeinsam mit der nordwestlich bzw. südöstlich davon gelegenen Insel als Esther Islands, Pyritis Islands oder Pyritic Islands wegen der Vorkommen von Pyrit und Ganglagerstätten aus Quarz. Aus Fergusons Beschreibungen geht hervor, dass das Eiskliff hinter dem Gam Point seit 1914 mit der ihm vorgelagerten Insel verschmolzen ist und als Teil von King George Island angesehen werden muss. Das UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee wählte 1960 die heute gültige Benennung, um Verwechslungen mit anderen geografischen Objekten in der Umgebung zu vermeiden, die das Präfix Esther tragen.

Pyrites Island is the largest of three small islands lying northeast of Gam Point and forming the east side of Esther Harbor, off the north coast of King George Island in the South Shetland Islands. In 1913–14, the rocky extremity of Gam Point and the adjoining islands to the northwest and southeast were named Esther, Pyritis or Pyritic Islands by Scottish geologist David Ferguson, who reported they were composed of pyrites and vein quartz. From Ferguson's description it appears that the ice cliff behind the Gam Point has advanced since 1914 so that this "island" is now joined to the mainland. The highest and most conspicuous of the remaining islands is the one here described. The name Pyrites Island was recommended by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) in 1960 to avoid confusion with the other existing "Esther" names in the vicinity.
