Die Farwell-Insel ist eine 61 km lange, 16 km breite und vereiste Insel vor der Eights-Küste des westantarktischen Ellsworthlands. Sie liegt zwischen der McNamara- und der Dendtler-Insel im östlichen Abschnitt des Abbot-Schelfeises.

Entdeckt wurde die Insel im Februar 1961 von den Besatzungen der Eisbrecher USS Glacier und USCGC Staten Island. Kartografisch erfasst wurde sie vom United States Geological Survey mithilfe von Luftaufnahmen der United States Navy im Jahr 1966. Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte sie 1968 nach Arthur Frederick Farwell Jr. (1915–2006), Stabschef des Kommandeurs der Unterstützungseinheiten der US-Marine in Antarktika bei den Operations Deep Freeze der Jahre 1968 und 1969.

Farwell Island is an ice-covered island, about 70 kilometres (38 nmi) long and 19 kilometres (10 nmi) wide, lying between McNamara Island and Dendtler Island in the eastern part of the Abbot Ice Shelf in Antarctica. The feature was positioned by parties from the USS Glacier and USS Staten Island in February 1961, and was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from U.S. Navy air photos of 1966. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Captain Arthur F. Farwell, Chief of Staff to the Commander, U.S. Naval Support Force, Antarctica, during Operation Deep Freeze 1968 and 1969.[1]

L'isola Farwell è un'isola completamente coperta dai ghiacci situata al largo della costa di Eights, nella Terra di Ellsworth, in Antartide. L'isola, che è lunga circa 70 km e raggiunge una larghezza massima di circa 19 km e che è completamente avvolta dai ghiacci della piattaforma glaciale Abbot, si trova tra l'isola McNamara, a ovest, e l'isola Dendtler, a est, nella parte orientale della suddetta piattaforma.[1]
