Der United States Geological Survey kartierte sie anhand eigener Vermessungen und Luftaufnahmen der United States Navy aus den Jahren von 1960 bis 1966. Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte sie 1968 nach Donald I. Dyment (1936–2005), Koch auf der Byrd-Station im Jahr 1967.

Dyment Island is a small island lying 9 kilometres (5 nmi) southwest of the McKinzie Islands in the inner-central part of Cranton Bay, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and from U.S. Navy air photos, 1960–66, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Donald I. Dyment, a U.S. Navy cook at Byrd Station, 1967.[1]
