Demographie
Nach der Volkszählung aus dem Jahr 2000 hatte Dauphin Island 1371 Einwohner, die sich auf 601 Haushalte und 418 Familien verteilten. Die Bevölkerungsdichte betrug somit 85,4 Einwohner/km². 96,43 % der Bevölkerung waren weiß, 0,44 % schwarz. In 21,6 % der Haushalte lebten Kinder unter 18 Jahren. Das Durchschnittseinkommen betrug 44.219 Dollar pro Haushalt, wobei 9,2 % der Bevölkerung unterhalb der Armutsgrenze lebten.
Geschichte
In Dauphin Island sind insgesamt vier Bauwerke und Stätten im National Register of Historic Places eingetragen (Stand 21. Dezember 2019), darunter Fort Gaines und der Isle Dauphine Club.[1]

Dauphin Island is an island town in Mobile County, Alabama, United States, on a barrier island of the same name (split by the Katrina Cut), in the Gulf of Mexico. It incorporated in 1988.[5] The population was 1,778 at the 2020 census,[4] up from 1,238 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Mobile metropolitan area. The island (originally named Massacre Island) was renamed for Louis XIV of France's great-grandson and heir, the dauphin, the future Louis XV of France. The name of the island is often mistaken as Dolphin Island; the word dauphin is French for dolphin, but historically, the term was used as the title of the heir apparent to the French monarch.[6][fr] Dauphin Island
