Aughinish (irisch Each Inis,dt. „Pferdeinsel“) ist eine 1,568 km²[2] große Insel und ein Townland in der Galway Bay im nördlichen County Clare, Irland. Die Insel kam trotz des (äußerst schmalen) Verbindungsdammes zur Doorus-Halbinsel (irisch: Dúros) im County Galway nicht zum County Galway. Zuvor war es eine Gezeiteninsel (Tidal Island).

Wegen seiner Abgeschiedenheit behalten Reste von Landeinteilungen und Ortsnamen ihre alte Form, Jedes Viertel (Ceathru) umfasst etwa 30 ha und alle Felder und Gassen tragen noch ihre irischen Namen. Nahe dem südwestlichen Ufer, in Ceathrü an Tobair (der Brunnen Carrowntobair befindet sich nördlich der Kirche) befinden sich die Ruinen der Aughinish Church. Bereits in den 1830er Jahren untergrub das Meer ihre Fundamente. Schon damals war die Tür in der Südwand bei Flut unzugänglich. Etwa 50 Meter nordöstlich der Kirche liegen die Fundamente eines doppelten Clocháns (Steinhütte) mit einem Kriechloch, das die runden Räume verbindet.

Aughinish (sometimes written as Aughnish) (Eachinis in Irish) is a small island and townland located in Oughtmama Parish of the Barony of Burren in north County Clare, in Ireland on the south shore of Galway Bay.[1] By road it is 10.9 kilometres (6.8 mi) northwest of Kinvarra.[2] The island is approximately two miles (3 km) wide and a mile (1.6 km) from the northernmost tip to the southernmost point and has approximately fifty inhabitants.
