Koltur è un'isola dell'arcipelago delle Isole Fær Øer, situata a ovest di Streymoy e a nord di Hestur. Nell'isola è presente un unico villaggio, avente lo stesso nome: Koltur. Fu abbandonato negli anni 80 dai pastori-contadini che allevavano le pecore nella parte meridionale dell'isola. Nel 1994, due persone fecero ritorno e si adoperarono per risistemare il villaggio. Koltur ha un unico rilievo collinare: Kolturshamar (478 m).

Important Bird Area

La maggior parte della costa dell'isola è stata identificata come Important Bird Area da BirdLife International per la sua rilevante funzione di luogo di riproduzione per gli uccelli marini, in particolare gli uccelli delle tempeste europei (5 000 coppie), i pulcinella di mare (20 000 coppie) e le urie nere (50 coppie).

Koltur (Danish: Kolter) is an island in the Faroe Islands, located to the west of Streymoy and to the north-west of Hestur. The name 'Koltur' means 'colt', in contrast with the name of the larger island to the south-east, 'Hestur', which means 'horse'.[1] The island has just one settlement, Koltur. It was abandoned in the 1980s by the sheep-farmers whose flocks grazed on the southern part of the island. Since then only two people have returned (in 1994). Koltur has two mountains, Kolturshamar (478 m) and Fjallið (101m) which strictly speaking is not a mountain, the name however translates directly as "The Mountain" and is considered by many as the smallest mountain in the country.

Ко́льтур (фар. Koltur, дат. Kolter, Kolterø) — один из островов Фарерского архипелага, расположенный в его центральной части[1]. До отъезда последних жителей был наименьшим по площади из населённых островов[2]. На Кольтуре расположен национальный парк и два старинных поселения, в одном из которых открыт краеведческий музей, посвящённый жизни крестьян в эпоху викингов[3].
